Addax Petroleum Restates Commitment to Local Capacity Building

Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Limited has restated its commitment to local capacity building in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry in line with the visions and objectives of the Nigerian Content Act.

Speaking recently when the company celebrated the third anniversary of Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry Content Development Act (NOGICDA) in Lagos, the Senior Vice President and Managing Director of the company, Mr. Cornelis Zegelaar, said his company had a robust history of utilisation of local capacity even in complex projects.

He however noted that building local capacity for the purpose of nation building did not lie with only the International Oil Companies (IOCs) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), adding that everyone has a role to play.

Zegelaar stated that the theme of the celebration, “Developing Nigerian Content: It all begins with you,” was about taking personal responsibility towards the realisation of the Nigerian Content goals of human capital development and nation’s capacity building.

“Some of the highlights of our own Nigerian Content achievements to date, includes, first of all, full compliance to all the NCDMB tendering and contracting requirements, history of utilisation of competent Nigerian contractors even in very complex projects and the development of creative ways of collaboration with our local vendors,” he said.

He stated that his company had also embarked on youth development initiatives and community projects aimed at empowering the youths in its areas of operations.

In his goodwill message, the Executive Secretary, NCDMB, Mr. Ernest Nwapa, described Addax Petroleum as a great company, which had given Nigerians opportunity to grow.

He however acknowledged that his board had issues with Addax Petroleum on the Nigerian Content in the past but pointed out that the issues gave the company an opportunity to learn the key requirements of the Nigerian Content law.

“We believe that Addax Petroleum will continue to support the growth of Nigerian companies and also contribute to the development of the country by creating employment opportunities and working with communities, so that the impact of the company will be felt down to the oil field,” Nwapa said.
