Boko Haram Shifts attention to Katsina, Bomb Baura Prison
« on: May 17, 2013, 11:34:08 AM »
There are fears that the state of emergency
declared in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe
States might have compelled the Boko
Haram sect to shift focus to other parts of
the Northern Region. With the state of
emergency, there was heavy deployment of
troops and military equipment including
fighter jets to parts of the North East where
the sect is known to be most ferocious in its
operation.
Reports from Borno indicate that some of
the bases of the sect have been captured.
There was a fight in Sambisa Forest Reserve,
south of Miduguri  as the military shelled the
Boko Haram base in the reserve, killing at
least 21 suspected terrorists.
With the North East apparently becoming
too hot, indications emerged on Thursday
night that the sect too might have gone
back to the drawing board. Attacks were
carried out in Daura, Katsina State late on
Thursday.
Two police stations and a first generation
bank were hit in Daura while the terrorists
also went on to launch a bomb attack on the
Nigerian Prisons Service facility in Daura
around 10 pm.
The number of casualties could not be
ascertained as of the time of filing this
report.
Street Journal’s findings have revealed that
one of the methods of operation of the sect
is to storm prisons to release members of
the sect who have been arrested and
remanded. It has also been found out that
one of the avenues through which the sect
raises funds  is to bomb banks and loot the
vault.
